Configuring the On-Screen Display Controller in SMART Notebook Software 10

SMART Software SMART Notebook 10 and SMART Board drivers 10 SP5
Operating Systems Windows operating systems

Overview

This article explains how to configure the On-Screen Display Controller in SMART Notebook software 10 for Windows operating systems.

Details

For the display controller to work, you need:

  • an available COM port on your computer

  • an RS-232 serial cable connection between the projector or flat-panel display and the computer

  • an active screen saver (optional)

To configure the On-Screen Display Controller

  1. Click the SMART Board icon in the notification area and select Control Panel.

  2. Click Configure SMART Tools.

  3. In the Configure SMART Tools dialog box, select Display Controller from the list.

  4. Select a display choice by clicking either 1 or 2, and then select the Enable Control for this Display check box.

  5. Click the Communication Control tab, select the manufacturer and model of your projector or flat-panel display, and then select the communications port on your computer that you connected the serial cable to.

  6. Click Apply.

    Note

If your projector model isn’t listed, contact SMART Support for further instructions.

  7. Click the Power Control tab, and then select the Computer goes to sleep, Computer shuts down or Computer starts check boxes and set the delay between when the screen saver activates and the computer turns off.

  8. If you want the projector or display to automatically turn on when the computer starts, select the Computer starts check box.

  9. Click on the More Settings button to activate the pen tray power button controls for either the computer’s or the display’s standby mode (specific to the Unifi 35 projector system).

    Note

The default setting for the computer is to enter standby when the Unifi 35 projector system turns off.

  10. Click OK.

Note

Rear Projection SMART Board 2000i and 3000i interactive whiteboards don’t have an available serial port, so you’re unable to use the On-Screen Display Controller on these models. The single serial port on the projector (labeled PC Control) is occupied by a serial cable connection from the projector to your 2000i or 3000i Control Panel.

You can use the Control Panel buttons to put your projector into standby, adjust the brightness and contrast of the projected image, and switch the display source from the internal computer to a laptop or a VCR or DVD/Blu-ray player.

Background

An On-Screen Display Controller helps preserve your projector lamp or flat-panel display. It detects the presence of a screen saver, and when the screen saver activates, the On-Screen Display Controller turns off the projector lamp or flat-panel display after a specified time. As soon as you touch the interactive screen or move the mouse, the On-Screen Display Controller turns the projector lamp or flat-panel display back on.

You can also use the On-Screen Display Controller to switch between a resident computer and a guest laptop, and to control other functions of the projector or flat-panel display, such as volume, power and input source, by pressing the screen.
