General questions
What is SMART Certification Training?
SMART Certification Training is designed to meet the needs of resellers or third-party trainers that provide in-depth training to customers on how to use SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards and SMART Notebook software. Participants will be certified to present a 90-minute, half-day and full-day SMART training session.
How is SMART Training Certification different from a SMART
Train-the-Trainer session?
Our existing Train-the-Trainer program instructs your on-staff trainers on how to help others within
your organization master the SMART Board™ interactive whiteboard. SMART Training Certification
takes the Train-the-Trainer program to a higher level, with in-depth content analysis and role-playing
practice based on the workshop materials. Once certified, a SMART Certified Trainer will be able to
train others both inside and outside your organization.
How do I become a SMART Certified Trainer and where do I go?
You can attend one of our upcoming SMART Certification Training events offered in various cities across North America, or we can come to your location.
How much does a SMART Certification Training event cost?
For pricing, e-mail training@smarttech.com
or please call (toll free) 1.888.42.SMART (1.888.427.6278).

Are there pre-certification assignments that I need to complete before the session?
Yes. Participants will need to complete a pre-certification self-study package, including readings, research, competency checks and assignments. Click here to complete the pre-certification assignment.
I already attended an event or on-site session. Does this count
toward SMART Training Certification?
A major release of Notebook software, version 10, will be available in spring 2008, and we have also
made significant changes to our course structure to better meet our customers’ needs. Therefore, all
interested candidates must participate in the full three-day certification session.
How long is each session?
A typical day will go from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a one-hour break for lunch and several breaks in the morning and in the afternoon.
How many participants will there be?
Each session is designed to accommodate approximately five participants for SMART Certification Training. SMART reserves the right to reschedule an event if fewer than five people register per session.
Who should be attending?
SMART Certification Training is for anyone who wants to present a 90-minute, half-day or full-day SMART Master's session on how to use SMART Board interactive whiteboards with version 9.5 of SMART Notebook software.
What if I train on a Macintosh computer?
SMART Training Certification is available for Macintosh computer users. You may attend a scheduled
event or speak to our training coordinators at 1.888.42.SMART to arrange for on-site SMART Training
Certification delivered on the Macintosh operating system.
Can I get certified
on SynchronEyes® software or SMART Ideas® software?
SMART currently only offers SMART Certification Training for SMART Board interactive whiteboards and SMART Notebook software.
Does SMART refer customers to SMART Certified Trainers?
Yes. SMART will refer people to its website, which lists all SMART Certified Trainers.
Post-certification
questions
Am I allowed to give certificates to people that I train?
Yes. You can create your own certificates stating that participants attended a SMART training
session. If you choose to purchase production-quality SMART Board interactive whiteboard learner
workbooks, you will also receive our completion certificates.
How long does SMART Training Certification last?
Your SMART Training Certification will be valid for the current major release of Notebook™ software.
At SMART’s discretion, you will be expected to attend online recertification for any minor releases
(e.g., version 10.1). A face-to-face recertification will be required for major releases of the software.
Are there any ongoing requirements after I successfully complete SMART Certification Training?
You will need to send us a monthly count of the number of sessions and participants that you trained, maintain an 85 percent satisfaction rate on your sessions (average of 3.4 on our 4-point scale), and pass an audit of any session a SMART Certification Trainer attends. SMART will also provide additional support to SMART Certified Master's Trainers should they fall below the quality standard.
As part of the quality assurance process, SMART Certified Master's Trainers will be periodically asked to submit the participant feedback forms from their sessions, with a feedback summary sheet.
Where will I get
my materials and certificates?
You can print materials and certificates for your sessions from your resources CD-ROM or purchase production-quality SMART Board Interactive Whiteboard Learner Workbooks from SMART. Updated materials will be provided on an ongoing basis, and more details will be given after you have successfully completed the post-certification requirements.
