Upgrading SC9 Firmware on the SMART Board 600 Series

SMART Hardware SMART Board 600 series interactive whiteboards
SMART Software SMART Board software 9.7 or later
Operating Systems Windows operating systems and Mac OS X operating system software

Issue

Dell’s OptiPlex 320 computer doesn’t work with the latest versions of SC9 firmware on a SMART Board interactive whiteboard.

Solution

Upgrade the SC9 firmware on your SMART Board 600 series to version 4.3.1.0. or later.

Note

  • When you install SMART Board software on your computer, the installation program copies SC9 firmware files to your hard drive. If the version of these files is earlier than version 4.1.2.0, download and install a firmware upgrade.

  • The CD included with SMART Board 600 series contains early SC9 firmware files that you must update.

To upgrade the SC9 firmware

  1. Connect the SC9 controller to your computer with a standard USB cable.

  2. Contact SMART Support for information regarding the download of an upgrade file.

  3. Unzip the file you’ve downloaded in step 2.

  4. On all computers with Windows operating systems, browse to the SMART Board interactive whiteboard firmware folder /Program Files/SMART Technologies Inc/SMART Board software/firmware/SP2. Move the 4.3.1.0-app.bin binary file (.bin) into it.

Or on all Mac computers, open the Finder window, and then select Applications > SMART Board Software > Firmware > SP2. Move the 4.3.1.0-app.bin file into it.

  5. Start the SMART Firmware Updater software wizard by double-clicking the following file located in the SMART Board software folder indicated in step 4:

The SMART Firmware Upgrade software wizard appears.

  6. Windows operating systems software: SMARTFirmwareUpdater.exe

  7. Mac OS X operating system software: SMARTFirmwareUpdater.app

  8. Select SMART Board interactive whiteboard (SC9).

  9. Click Next to start a search for connected interactive whiteboards.

The wizard displays the current firmware on your interactive whiteboard and the latest upgrade version available.

  10. Select the SMART Board series that you want to upgrade the firmware on and then click Next to continue.

    Note

If the latest upgrade version available is earlier than, or the same as, the current firmware on your interactive whiteboard version, or if the wizard is unable to locate an interactive whiteboard because it isn't correctly connected to your computer, click Finish or Cancel to exit the wizard.

  11. Select the Yes option and then click Next to begin the SC9 firmware upgrade.

The Ready light flashes amber during the upgrade.

  12. When the upgrade is complete, click Next and then Finish.

The interactive whiteboard restarts automatically, and the Ready light is solid green.

    Note

If the firmware upgrade is unsuccessful, repeat the procedure. If the upgrade is unsuccessful after a second attempt, contact SMART Support
