Overview
You’re unable to connect to the Bridgit server because of issues with the Bridgit client computer.
Note
You’re also unable to connect when the Bridgit server is causing the issue. For more information, see You’re unable to connect to the Bridgit server because of issues with the server (smarttech.com/kb/099569).
Details
You’re connecting to the Bridgit server either from a Bridgit client computer or from an Internet browser. You see an error message that the server is not available or that the Internet page can’t be displayed.
You’re unable to connect to the Bridgit server because of the following reasons:
-
You’re connecting to the wrong server name.
-
The server is temporarily unavailable.
-
You’re connecting to the server through an Internet browser that’s not supported. Bridgit software supports the following Internet browsers:
-
Internet Explorer
-
Firefox
-
Opera
-
Your computer isn’t communicating with the server.
-
Your domain name system (DNS) isn’t configured correctly.
-
Port forwarding isn’t configured correctly. on the server.
Solution
Complete the following procedures to resolve the issue.
To verify that your computer is communicating with the Bridgit server
-
Start a supported Internet browser.
-
Type your server’s name in the address bar, and then press ENTER. If you don’t know your server’s name, ask your system administrator.
If you see the error message "This page cannot be displayed," your computer isn’t communicating with the Bridgit server. Ask your system administrator to configure your computer to communicate with the Bridgit server, and then connect again.
If a Bridgit server page appears in your Internet browser, your computer is communicating with the Bridgit server.
Note
The Bridgit server page that appears in your Internet browser can be customized for your organization.
To verify that your DNS is configured correctly
-
Click Start > Run.
The Run dialog box appears.
-
Type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
A C:\WINDOWS\System32\CMD.exe window appears.
-
Type ping <server name> in the window, and then press ENTER.
Note
<server name> is the name of the Bridgit server you want to connect to. If you don’t know your Bridgit server’s name, ask your system administrator.
-
A response appears in the C:\WINDOWS\System32\CMD.exe window.
Notes
-
If your ping request is successful, the response contains detailed replies and ping statistics.
-
If your ping request is unsuccessful, the response states that your ping request could not find host <server name>, and to check the name and try again.
-
If your ping request continues to be unsuccessful, the DNS isn’t configured correctly. Ask your system administrator to configure the DNS to communicate with the Bridgit server, and then connect again.
When you see a successful response, your DNS is configured correctly. If you didn’t see a successful response, verify that the IP address exists or is accessible.
To verify the server IP address exists or is accessible
-
In the C:\WINDOWS\System32\CMD.exe window, type ping <server IP address>, and then press ENTER.
Note
<server IP address> is the IP address of the Bridgit server you want to connect to.
-
A response appears in the C:\WINDOWS\System32\CMD.exe window.
Note
If your ping request is unsuccessful, a response appears stating that your request timed out.
If your ping request is successful, the IP address of the server is accessible but the DNS configuration is incorrect. Ask your system administrator to verify that port forwarding on the Bridgit server is configured so that you can access the server through the firewall. For more information, see the SMART Bridgit 4.5 software installation and system administrator’s guide (smarttech.com/kb/170180).
